Looking for the Bassin For Bucks photos? They're here!

September 24, 2014

Leaving in the morning, closing up for the year. Most of the windows are covered, just waiting for a break in the rain to load the car. It was another good summer (despite the god awful high water level for 2 months) in the place I love.... Now it's back to Indiana where the waters are narrow and the walleyes are imported.

September 20, 2014

The 3rd Nestor Falls Musky Cup was this weekend and new champions were crowned! Congratulations to Mike Reid and Shaun Puddester

September 19, 2014

After a morning of lightning, torrential rains and hail, it cleared up in the evening and we had fog move in. A view of Scott and Linda's place as I motored around the lake.

September 15, 2014

Took photos at the Crow Lake Classic again. Dallas Mosbeck and Wayne Howard took home first place.

September 6, 2014

On the way back from Sioux Narrows last night, I poked around on sections of the old highway.

September 5, 2014

Fishing tournament season! Here's photos from the Sioux Narrows Bassin For Bucks tournament. I went up just to shoot some photos of people I knew and of course got carried away....

Going back today!

August 29, 2014

Busy, busy. My best friend came up for two weeks for some much needed relaxation (left this morning, sad...) so I've been busy doing things with her. Before she arrived I shot photos for the Nestor Falls Fun Dance.

Then I had the privilege to shoot photos for the Moose N' Fiddle Musical Festival. What a blast that was! Everyone was great... the bands, the organizers, the security people, the crowds.

August 11, 2014

The lake level is going in the right direction.... down!

August 10, 2014

Up early to go to Sioux Narrows and shoot photos for the Paradise Triathlon. Afterwards I went home and took a nap.

August 2, 2014

We had a small storm roll through in the evening and the temperature dropped a bit. Fog popped up in this small bog near Wolf Island.

In the afternoon, it was a good time to slide into the kayaks and take a paddle.

July 29, 2014

Went blueberry picking with Sandy Porter and we found some!

Then it was Turkey Tuesday at Gail and Lloyd's!

July 24, 2014

Breakfast at the Porter's, the Bacon Hut was used officially for the first time!

July 21, 2014

A good day for a paddle in the 'yak.

July 12, 2014

Took photos for the Nestor Falls "Kids Like To Fish" event. Way too much fun!

July 7, 2014

I took a paddle in the kayak today and then looked to the north and saw this storm coming....

And yes, the water is still high.
Water is still over my wall.

July 4, 2014

If it's July 4, we're at Walker's place for their party...

July 3, 2014

Took pictures for AJ and Bianca. Wading through them but this one popped out at me. Here's the rest of them.

July 2, 2014

Toadstools and mushrooms are popping out. Saw this one when I was hanging the wash today.

June 28, 2014

The water has risen two feet since I arrived in Nestor Falls. A lot of stationary docks are or about to be underwater... mine included.

June 9, 2014

Went down to look at the falls on Splitrock river and saw my friend Ron out fishing. And I got to play with my new toy!

May 26, 2014

The falls are roaring with all the water coming over.

May 23, 2014

Home. The trees are just starting to leaf out.

May 4, 2014

Last winter was persistent and relentless. It tried to wear me down and then the snow tried to bury me and make me a part of eternal winter landscape. At least that’s what it felt like. A tough and cold winter, full of the white stuff. It came down hard, then waited a few days until we dug ourselves out, then came on again.

But now the trees are greening up and instead of shoveling snow, I'm working in the yard. A lot of clean up due to the snow, I lost a tree and spent today working in the area where my apple tree used to stand. I'll miss the tree, I didn't eat any of the apples but I'll always remember their smell as I ran over them while mowing the grass...

I've been watching a webcam in Nestor Falls and see that Spring is slowly arriving there. The ice is going out, late again this year and soon I'll be leaving home to go home.

October 31, 2013

First day back to work, got news in the afternoon that I'm going to be laid off again. ‹sigh›

October 12, 2013

Spent the day with the family down at McCormick's Creek State Park. A fun day. Here's a big photo of three of the kids playing in the dirt.

October 5, 2013

Drove to Marietta, OH with friends to drive the roads. Had a great time, only had one misadventure...

September 27, 2013

Time to head south... Ron picked me up and took me to the Government Dock. Another season on the island is over.

September 20, 2013

Photos from the 2nd Nestor Falls Musky Cup. The weather was better this year (at least for photos) so got out on the lake on the 2nd day.

September 14, 2013

Did photos for the Crow Lake Classic again. Rain on Saturday, but Sunday was nice.

Drove to Sioux Narrows to watch the boats come in for the 2013 Bassin' For Bucks tourney.

September 4, 2013

My good neighbrs from Indy came to visit. Here they are, relaxing on the dock.

August 28, 2013

Jumped in the boat and had my dinner on the lake. This is the view I had while I ate.

August 19, 2013

My best friend Judy was up. We had a great time.

August 18, 2013

Just really noticed that leaves from the birch trees are falling.

August 12, 2013

Working on a bench...

August 5, 2013

Mink! There were two of them popping out from underneath the steps on my dock today.

August 4, 2013

Walked my neighbor's island and went out in the kayak. A good day.

August 3, 2013

OK, haven't updated this page for a while.... Let's get you up to date. Was in Phoenix, saw my neice and friends in Lawrence, got furloughed from work and am now in Canada. OK? Just doing the usual stuff in Nestor so far... cliff jumping, kayaking, a fish fry and art festival. Go to the photo section to see what's been going on so far in the true north.

July 8, 2013

My cousin Lee Ellen came to visit me! We had a great time and she needs to visit more often!

March 10, 2013

Tax season is upon us, so I'm busy giving America's taxpayers better service than they deserve. I got down to Nashville, IN to see my friend Chuck and his band Shelf Life play the other night. A good time as always.

March 1, 2013

Photos from my drive across Lake of the Woods...

December 20, 2012

I'm back in Canada!

If this were summer, I wouldn't be in the photo as both the car and I would be underwater. Photos!

September 16, 2012

A whirlwind of a couple of weeks. Shot Jennifer Helliar's wedding, the Crow Lake Classic fishing tourney and the Triple P Fun Run race. I feel like I have a camera glued to my hand and can only see people through the view finder!

September 4, 2012

At long last, I'm where I need to be... Nestor Falls. I stepped on my dock on August 30th and almost cried. The island looks to be in good shape... I've been out in the kayak for several trips.

June 10, 2012

Arrghhh. I'm still in Indiana, no word on when I'm heading north. (Boo!) Joined the family at Victory Field for a baseball game!

Easter!

Charlie's first Easter Egg hunt!

January 29, 2012

The city is buzzing with all the Super Bowl preparations. I braved the crowds downtown for this shot.

January 12, 2012

Couldn't find my phone this morning, but used the "Find my phone" app and yep! I did leave it at work.

Of course an alarm has been going off since 7:00AM.

January 8, 2012

First week back at work went well, of course it helps that it was only four days. It was the usual "Sign here, sign here, initial that..." plus refresher classes. Next week is more classwork with the last three days covering what I was taught right before I was laid off. I've started reading on that now, it's going to be tough on the old brain.

The bonus for last week was the warm (50F+) temps. Top down on the way home one night. Very nice.

January 2, 2012!

First things first...

Happy New Year!

I've long admitted to being a Machead or as Rick said "Sara, you really drank Steve Job's Kool-Aid". So, all I could think of when I saw this was Road Trip!

December 27

Our first real snow. It probably won't last, but it sure looks pretty out there. Glad I didn't have to drive to work in it.

December 23

He's cute, but in a way, it'a kind of sad that my cat is bigger than my tree...

December 23

Look! Christmas is just around the corner!

November 22

The kitties are sleeping and must be dreaming..little meows and legs moving. I can only think they're dreaming of being outside on the island.

November 22

Construction continues...

November 22

Driving in the rain.

November 7

Still waiting to be called back to work. The call back has begun, but I'm so far down on the list, looks like it will happen in early December. So I've been driving my Miata. Went to SE Ohio for a weekend trip with some friends, had a great time. Last weekend, I planned a rally for my Miata club. Good turnout (23 cars), good time.

October

The roads are torn up in my neighborhood. Noise, dust...yuck.

October 4

My friend and neighbor Ron provides taxi service for me when I leave in the fall. Once again, he took the kitties and me across the lake, our last boat ride in 2011. Thanks, Ron-Ron!

September 24

Just puttered about today, built a flower box and did a little more staining

.

September 20

Raining, but we need it. Tomorrow high is only 45F! I was rethinking my decision to stay a week more, but then I checked the forecast and see that it will be worth the bit of cold tomorrow. Posted final pictures of the shed project. Well, there might be a few more...

September 19

It's warmer, 51F when I got up this morning, nice and sunny. I was out on Crow Lake for the first time on Saturday, taking photos for the Crow Lake Classic. I wish it would have been nicer, a front moved in and it got windy and cold. Rough weather and rough fishing. All the fisherman seemed to have a good time in spite of the conditions. Yesterday I sat in front of the firepace, worked on all the photos and got them posted. Today? The sun is out so it's wash day!

September 16

OK, it's a wee bit chilly. 41F when I got up, it was cold going across the lake at 7AM, I almost fell on the ramp at the government dock because of the frost and then I had to scrape my windshield! Why am I still here? It's because I'm taking photos for the Crow Lake Classic, the local bass fishing tourney.

September 12

The painting crew (me!) was busy and got most of the shed stained.

September 9

I took my guests to dinner at Tinker's this evening. Fish fry! Yum!

September 8

A break from work in the morning, but then it's back to work (well, for two of us) and we finish up.

September 7

Work on the shed continues. Will I ever give my guests a break?

September 5

Judy and Kelly arrived late Saturday night, I gave them Sunday off and today I put them to work on finishing my shed.

August 25

The next step in the shed building project has started. Bill and Bill were busy guys.

August 18

My big project is to build a storage shed down by my dock. I'm getting help from everybody on this. Ron helped me get the lumber to the island today.

August 10

Sunny day on the lake, I was over at the neighbors and Terry Halverson stopped by.

August 7

I stained the walkway today. It looks much better...

August 1

Hard to believe it's August. I've taken photos at the Triple P and the local softball tourney. Also have some Porter pictures up!

July 27

Cleaning up the mess from the storm.

July 20

A nasty storm rolled through Nestor Falls and I had a tree come down on my Hydro line and I lost all power. Could have been worse, people in town had trees down on roofs and vehicles. Hydro was out about 4 hours after I called.

July 15

Time for a Fish Fry!

I grabbed this shot on our way there.

Wow, July 6, 2011?

Where has the time gone? OK, quick wrap up of past 10 months. Started an adult job in October, got furloughed (yay!) the 3rd of June, arrived in Nestor Falls on June 10. I've even been taking some pictures! Until I get them posted, here's a picture of some Nova Scotia Duck Tollers that belong to some neighbors of mine.

August 24

It's been a whirlwind couple of weeks...but I'm back in Canada where I belong!

August 5

Guests have arrived, so I'm making them work. We did take some time to fish off the dock.

August 1

There was a softball tournament in town.

July 25

I took photos at the Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls Healthy Living Coalition Triple P Fun Race (say that three time fast!) on Sunday. Everyone had a fun time. Pictures here.

July 12

Storms rolled through the area and a lot of trees came down. This white pine came down on a neighbor's roof.

July 5

Went out on the lake today. Pictures were taken west of Bald Rock. Big sky. Big water.

July 4

Rain in the morning, but the skies cleared for the Walker's annual party. Record attendance this year!

June 23

Smoke on the water, fire in the sky.....

June 21

I've been in the wilds of northern Wisconsin for the last few days visiting my favorite aunt and cousin. We took Lee Ellen's son Logan to camp.

June 14

My buddy returned this morning. He was preening himself again and ruffled out all his feathers.

June 12

This is what I saw when I looked out my front door this morning. He was busy preening. And I've got some maintenence going on too, got to stop that leak!

Later, I went into town for the dedication of the new ball field at the park.

June 5

Rain in the north woods.... but that's okay. Some pictures between showers...

June 3

This is currently Two's favorite place to sleep during the day.

May 27

Yesterday I planted trees, fifteen Norway pine seedlings. I'd like to think I'd see them grow to be 100 feet tall, but I'd be kidding myself. Today, I'm doing the opposite, taking down trees. The trees I'm dealing with today today are dead, so it's the whole cycle thing. One tree I'll be cutting down is a Jack Pine that was planted by my Uncle Carlton.
I looked at it last year and knew it was on its last legs, but it held memories for me. There were no Jack Pines on the island, so Carlton decided we should plant one. (That's how Carlton was, he once attended a meeting concerning how a plant considered an invasive weed should be eradicated and he argued for keeping it.) Typically, Jacks grow on craggy, rocky islands, you see them hanging on where there doesn't seem to be an ounce of dirt. Carlton found one tree, planted it and it did just OK. I think the soil was just too good for it. This year it's gone, no green needles on it at all.
I'll be planting another Jack Pine in the same spot later this summer....
